New Plan for the Tenbury Cattle Market

The Tenbury Futures Group have created a "peoples" plan for the Tenbury Cattle Market Site.

Full details are available on their website and also in the Teme Valley Times (available from today in the usual places)

The site is still in private ownership and there are no indications that it will be coming to market, and with Tesco still reconsidering their position this may be seen by some as a fruitless exercise in kite flying, but if nothing else it will keep the development of the site on the political agenda.

The Futures Group (who were formed out the group opposing the Tesco development) surveyed the local community to see what they would like on the site.  Not surprisingly given the origins of the group they concluded that "There was very little support in the 300 replies for a single large retail supermarket development"

The first plan (shown above) would be unlikely to gain planning consent, even if it was submitted as it doesn't meet the planning criteria for the site and would almost certainly be opposed by the Environment Agency due to the positioning of the development.

Individuals and community groups are encouraged by Tenbury Futures to download a blank plan and draw up their own ideas for the site.

Do you remember 1986?

In 1986, 900 years after William the Conqueror’s original Domesday Book, the BBC published the Domesday Project. The project was probably the most ambitious attempt ever to capture the essence of life in the United Kingdom. Over a million people contributed to this digital snapshot of the country.

People were asked to record what they thought would be of interest in another 1000 years.

Here are some extracts from Tenbury (which I believe were written by Children from the Primary School)

Tenbury Market

No animal has ever escaped from the market on to the road but they have escaped on to the car park. Tenbury Market doesn't sell wool because it is illegal, the wool is sold at Bromyard Wool Marketing Board. Tenbury has been altered and is the first market in the West Midlands to have a Cattle weighbridge,a built in selling ring and the pens renewed and they have had a new fruit selling ring recently.

Tenbury Factories

In Tenbury there are five factories :Bedfords, Wells Drinks, Richard Lloyds, Margetts and Spencers. We telephoned to ask how many people they employ. We found out that
Bedfords employ 20 people, they make clock faces and dials.
Wells Drinks employ about 300 people, they make fizzy drinks and squash.
Spencers employ about 100 people they make parts for bicycles.
Margetts employ about 230, they make jams and pie fillings.
Richard Lloyds employ about 250 people. They make serrated blades and indexible insert milling cutters and high speed steel ground thread taps
.

Where Dads Work (No mention of Mums!)

Forms to be returned no later than 13 May 2011.

They are also looking for volunteers to help carry out more consultation with residents and to help draw up the final plan based on the evidence collected. If you would like to volunteer to help, please complete the form or contact; Alan Eachus Tel: 01584 810288 E-mail: alan.eachus@btinternet.com

Tenbury Town Council Mayor polls highest votes.

Only 852 of the 2130 people eligible to vote bothered to vote in this weeks election.  Surprisingly few votes were cast for each candidate. I wonder how many people were confused by needing to put so many crosses on the ballot paper, or perhaps they only voted for the people they knew.  Other than Jonathan Morgan who canvassed as a District Cllr there appeared to be little or no canvassing by the other candidates.

The new Tenbury Town Council is

Liz Weston 467
Jonathan Morgan 434
Stephen Bowkett 430
George Price 425
Sue Corfield 362
Joe Watson 332
Mary Drummond 327
Mark Willis 256
Jay Da Costa 246
Anji Stevens 234
Adrian Rigby 215
Margaret Austin 174 (Not Elected)

3949 Votes were cast with 47 being spoilt or rejected.
Turnout was 40% (852 Ballot Papers)

MHDC Stays Blue (Just)

The Conservatives will remain in control of MALVERN Hills District Council.  Previously, they had 26 seats and the Lib Dems had 6.  Now they have 21 seats, the Lib Dems have increased to 11, with 4 Independents and 2 Greens.
The voter turnout averaged across the District was 47.5 per cent.

Tenbury stays blue.

Phil Grove & Tony Penn have been re-elected as District Councillors for Tenbury Wells, but with a lower number of votes.

Phil's votes reduced from 1042 to 966. (-7.29%)
Tony's votes reduced from 834 to 730 (-12.47%)

Independent Candidate Jonathan Morgan increased his votes from 269 to 416. (+54.64)

The total number of votes cast in Tenbury was 30% lower than the previous District Council Election.

The final make-up of the District Council hangs in balance, with a number of recounts taking place.  It is possible that the Council will swing from Conservative to no overall control.

Tea, Cake & Plant Sale

Tenbury Tesco Rumours are untrue,

I can confirm that the rumours that Tesco have submitted a new application for the Tenbury Cattle Market site are untrue.

They are still actively considering the site but have made no final decision, and will undertake additional local consultation before any plan is submitted.
