The red shown in the above picture seems to be some kind of waterproof layer, the purpose of which so far alludes me. Isn't tarmac waterproof?
Some people have asked me why the work hasn't been completed as there was a two week "bad weather" contingency period built into the schedule. Again, I have no idea. I hadn't heard or read that a contingency had been built in, and always believed that the stated objective was 10 weeks, but longer if there was bad weather.

Well, it does't look black - or any other dark colour for that matter! There is a problem - too light a colour and it shows the dirt, too dark and the railings tend to get lost in the background.
well with only 2 weeks to go are the contractors starting to panic that they wont be finished in time for the bridge to open as they are working on a sunday if they had worked every sunday since they closed the bridge it would of saved 8days the bridge could of been open sooner
Apparently there's 'porous' and 'non porous' asphalt.. It can make the difference between copious spray and minor spray on a motorway when it rains..

How long does concrete need to set and stabilise to maximum strength before a 40-ton lorry can stop on it without it being damaged ? If they cotinue to lay kerbstones etc to the last minute will they have to keep the bridge closed for a little longer before a 40-tone lorry can mount the kerb ?
I always understood up to 4 days. I see most of the upstream curbstones have been installed & the downstream ones set out. Guess they can continue to set whilst tarmac is laid.
