Tenbury TIC stays put - even longer!

In what may be seen by some as a surprising move, the Tenbury Wells Tourist Information Centre, which had originally been earmarked to move in the the Library following the construction of the WHUB has now applied to have their lease extended for another 18 months instead of the usual 12?

usual = 3 years

If 'anonymous' is correct then the request for an 18 month lease was for a shorter rather than longer lease. This of course is the problem when TTC hold so many of their discussions behind closed doors under the "Section 100(1) of the Local Government Act 1972" People like me end up having to read between the lines and sometimes we get it wrong!

If usual = 3 years, and if lease is only 18 months, the presumption is that MHDC plan to close Tenbury TIC late next year. MHDC has made a huge cut in tourism funding, so perhaps no surprise here. After all, MHDC announced ending of Tenbury TIC funding in 2004!

I hope the TIC doesnt move. It needs to have an established place in the town. It is an essential place for Info for the many tourists that our town attracts during the summer, and should remain in a regognised and prominant place.

The TIC at Tenbury is now a very good resource for the town. There are no plans to close it next year at all. just an extension. the origiunal lease was for one year extended as required.These stupid rum,ours do nothing for the confidence of the good people of TENBURY WELLS.

That's good to hear.

The TIC have reversed their decision on early closing and have updated their web site.

Things are looking up indeed.

A Councillor told me that the District Council does not intend to fund Tenbury TIC beyond Autumn 2009.
