Money is tight and dozens of jobs have already been lost locally. Many people face other financial problems. But the Council is putting up the Council Tax regardless. You would think that with the economy as it is, Councils would try to help residents, by not having an increase, even if only for one year. But no, they just press on with expensive schemes that won't help Tenbury, while refusing to even mend the potholes in our roads.

I was disappointed that the %age increase kept going up. The Town Council have undertaken to do a thorough review of the budgets during this year, and before they set the next precept. Lets hope they keep to their promise!

The Town Council’s precept has increased by 1.8% - from £93k in 2008/9 to £94.7k in 2009/10. The reason why the increase is expressed as 3.2% on the Bill from MHDC is because the precept for 2009/10 is having to be collected from a smaller tax base than was the case in 2008/9 (presumably fewer numbers paying the full Council Tax – a reflection, no doubt, of the recession) - thus the Tenbury Town Council precept is being collected from a Band D property at £79.35pa against a 2008-09 figure of £76.91 – an increase of 3.17%.

If a 1.8% spending rise relates to a 3.2% increase in the tax, this suggests that the number of houses paying Council Tax in Tenbury has fallen by about 1.4%. How odd!

I'm confused!

It's pretty straightforward - raising slightly more money from slightly fewer payers. What's confusing about that? Annoying, yes. Confusing, no.

Mystery solved!

Last year MHDC used an incorrect figure in their precept calculation for Tenbury, so this years precept is shown as an increase of 3.2% (A 3.2% increase from last years incorrect figure to this years correct figure) If they had shown the increase from last years correct figure to this years figure then the increase would be 1.8%.
