TESCO TO EXHIBIT PLANS FOR TENBURY WELLS

Tenbury local people are to be given a chance to view and discuss the details for the proposed new Tesco store in the town with a public exhibition at The Pump Rooms on May 18th and 19th.

Tesco has submitted plans to build a new 15,000 sq ft store on the Cattle Market site, which will create up to 180 jobs for local people.

Shoppers and residents will be able to see detailed plans and leave comments at the two-day exhibition, as well as speaking to Tesco representatives who will be on hand to answer questions about the plans.

Tony Fletcher, corporate affairs manager at Tesco, said: “This is an opportunity for members of the public, and the local community, to speak to members of our planning team and give their feedback. The comments we receive from local people at this exhibition will then be incorporated into the scheme where possible.”

The proposed new store will be environmentally friendly incorporating a sustainable timber frame and glass structure, providing a modern, contemporary feel. It will include 94 car parking spaces and a host of energy saving features that will help to reduce the store’s carbon footprint and ensure maximum energy efficiency.

The public exhibition will be at The Pump Rooms from 10am – 6.30pm on Tuesday May 18th and from 9am – 4pm on Wednesday May 19th.

I understand that the plans will now go up in the Tenbury Library [mid Jun].

As estimated 180 new jobs? I wonder if that would compensate really for the certain loss of [for example] the craft bakers, the fish shop, the vegetable shop and their extended local supply chains. All would be mercilessly undercut by Tesco's pricing. Next to nothing sole there would be sourced locally - utlising the existing supply chains in the area. Little of the monies generated will benefit the locale with the lion's share being creamed-off to Tesco HQ down south.

The highstreet in Tenbury is experiencing only a fragile recovery as it is post multiple floods. Why on earth anyone thinks a great big featureless Tesco sandwiched into this tiny highstreet will really benefit the community I really can't see.

Tesco will tell you anything that they think you want to hear to secure their development.

Unclear too is why people think that we're not -already- well served by the excellent Bowketts supermarket in town. It again will be yet another local business to take a pounding if you let the multinationals in. Add to that the ease of popping into the Spar or the Co-Op mini markets already in Tenbury and we've already got great choice if we want it. If you're really desperate for a Tesco fix then why not travel the 15 or so mins in the car to the space-station-sized one in Ludlow?

A Tesco in Tenbury would decimate the high street and tear the soul out of the little town as it stands. Don't let Tenbury turn into a 'clone town'.

Also to the above the impact of the proposed new store would have on the road system and getting stock to the store.
Teme Street at the best of times is very congested, the new store would only add fuel to this.
Also when large lorries come to drop off stock this would also impact on the road network.
Causing delays either over Teme Bridge, or coming down Bromyard Road where the Primary School is.

As a town we do NOT need a Tesco or any other large Supermarket.
Why spoil our lovely Town.
If it happens it will spoil our town, and it will lose it's sole.

Are these people rabbiting on about the lovely town actually true residents of Tenbury wells.
Or are they the ones that moved into the town and now commute to work and shop in those towns. Not supporting the local economy whatsoever.
I think they are the latter.
The lovely town disappeared years ago and now it needs a desperate over haul.
I am so glad I moved out. And will never return.
