Town Council Plunder Charity Fund

Members of Tenbury Town Council voted tonight to transfer the majority of the 'recycling fund' to help pay for the Regal Heating Bill.

Each year, WCC pay TTC a fee per tonne for all recyclable items diverted from landfill and recycled in the Cardboard, Paper & Glass Banks on the Palmers Car Park.

This fund is then used to make charitable donations, (and for unexpected expenditure).

What I find amazing is there has been no discussion (in Public) about what remedial action should be taken to stop another excessive bill being run up in the future.

No surprise there then!

Is it in the public interest for councilors to be able to exercise their collective wisdom free from public gaze or to avoid embarrassment of their inability to understand the consequences of the decisions they make? Obviously it is in the best interest of the community that TTC have raided the kiddie’s piggy bank to pay this unexpected bill.

The point is that the bill should not have been that unexpected!

The bill should have been expected.

I have raised it a number of times direct with the Town Clerk, with individual Cllrs and on the Blog.

Even the Advertiser asked questions about it and the Clerk told them that my comments were "unhelpful".

TTC took professional advice on the heating system in June 2009 following the visit by HM Inspector of Health and Safety who directed the shut down of the oil fired boiler.

The advice from Andrew Wilkes was discussed in confidential session so we do not know if the advice was considered good or bad but we do know the fee charged by Elias Topping Wilkes and paid in September was £3622.50p.
