Tenbury's Teme Bridge to Close for Months.

It was announced tonight that Tenbury's historic Teme Bridge will initially be closed to all vehicular traffic on several Sundays in May & June 2011 for extensive structural investigations.

Once the extent of the work is known, a full work schedule will be produced.  It is expected that the required works will take several months to complete and will require complete closure of the bridge to all traffic.

It is likely, although not confirmed that the closure will start in December 2011 and continue well into the new year.

It is expected that a temporary car park will be established on the Shropshire side of the river and a temporary footbridge will be installed to enable people to walk into town.

Inconvenient - but I for one am happy to be incovienced if one of Tenbury's iconic structures can be restored.

Do the work at night to minimise the disruption.

I think they might have to remove the road surface hence the need for the closure.

tesco to start building in the autumn? have you heard of planning permission process or have you been asleep for past year?

tesco was refused goodbye tesco

Ok, enough Tesco already.

Yes, the inconvenience will add to costs so I suppose I must be honest and confess that you (if you are a taxpayer) are meeting them - I get my traveling costs reimbursed . . . but not the extra time!

its about time the bridge was sorted out its been a state for many years, at least they are going to put a footpath for people to still walk into town is a very good idea, but i bet people will say stuff this and go to kiddy or ludlow instead of going the long way round just to get to tenbury. but yes i do hope all this is done for tesco to build as we need a supermarket

If you think the bridge closure will damage the town - then Tesco would be the final straw. Our local shopkeepers will need all of our business to struggle through the impact of this, the arrival of Tesco will bring nothing but 'net' unemployment

At least this investigative work is being done on Sundays, so shouldn't affect trade too badly.

I agree, it's about time the bridge was sorted.

They are not fixing the bridge for tesco they are fixing the bridge because it needs fixing. Remember yesco was not refused bwcause of the bridge.

The bridge has been scheduled for repair for many years. Possibly even before the Cattle Market Closed.
Any more comments on this item that contain references (For or Against) to Tesco will not be published.

The work is essential & well overdue - my only concern is whether there will be access for the emergency services when the work is being done?

Closing the Bridge from Dec. 2011 - just before Christmas. Perfect timing. Bet shopkeepers love that. Why not Jan. ?

Final dates are still under discussion.
