 I took this photo in 2007, but I probably could have taken it at any time over the last 20 years. Certainly nothing much has happened at the Tenbury Wells Business Park (apart from a few changes of tenants) for a long time.

In 2009 the County Council announced that Tenbury would get a new waste site.  It was after all in the contract drawn up with Severn Waste.  As often happens after the announcement nothing much happened.

In June 2011 I suggested that perhaps the Town Council should force the hand of the County by giving them notice to quite their existing site on the car park. As often happens nothing much happened.

Finally in 2013, the Town Council decided so serve notice.

Things started to happen.  Plans were drawn up by WCC & Severn Waste and submitted to the planning authority, MHDC.  The plans were supported by the local District Councillors and the Leader of MHDC, the County Councillor, The Town Council and by the public at an exhibition.  It looked like the plans would be passed this summer and the site would be built and be open by Easter 2015.

Suddenly two other companies whose names are secret due to business confidentiality also want space on the business park, so that plans for the waste site have been put on hold.

Some would say good news for Tenbury as more businesses on the park should bring additional jobs. Could this be evidence of the green shoots of economic recovery?  Or is this Tenbury getting stitched up yet again by the officers at MHDC!  Well certainly some Town Councillors, although trying to choose their words carefully through gritted teeth, at the very least thought "here we go again!"

The Wheelie Bins Are Coming

Wheelie Bins will be coming to Tenbury by 2015.  The next round on recycling legislation will force local councils to collect glass from the curbside, and MHDC have concluded the only safe way is to use Wheelie Bins.

Unfortunately (some would say) the weekly black bag collection will continue as before (so that the local crow population don't go hungry and can continue to split open sacks all over town every Monday)

Recyclables collection will switch to wheelie bins and be collected every fortnight.

MHDC Council Leader to step down

It is reported in the latest issue of the Teme Valley Times published today that Tenbury's District Councillor Phillip Grove is to step down as leader of Malvern Hills District Council.

Worcester News

Tenbury Tesco planning application approved.

Malvern Hills District Council finally granted approval for the Tenbury Tesco application tonight after an epic four hour meeting.

In a shock move, Tenbury Cllr Grove moved to have the application refused shortly after proceedings begun, but when this was finally voted upon, it only gained support from 3 Cllrs, with 12 voting against and 1 abstention.

After several hours more debate Cllr Tony Penn moved to grant the application subject to certain conditions and this was supported by 11 Cllrs, with 1 voting against and 4 abstentions.

Tenbury Futures have already promised that they will be referring the decision for judicial review.

Tenbury Wells - 2nd Windfall Draw Completed

The second draw in the monthly Tenbury Wells Grand Windfall took place at 10.30am on March 5th in Tenbury Library. Cllr Phil Grove, the Leader of Malvern Hills District Council, carried out the draw.

Cllr Grove commented "Over 6,000 cards were entered in this draw, which shows just how popular Tenbury's Grand Windfall Loyalty Scheme is."

Looking to the future, Tenbury's County Councillor, Ken Pollock, said that after the bridge reopens "The town will take some time to recover, which is why the Loyalty Scheme will continue until the end of June. So keep collecting the stickers!"

The top prize of £1,000 was won by Tim Symonds of Holly Road, Burford and as Mr Symonds' card had five green apple stickers, he also won the iPod Touch.

A runner-up prize of a bouquet of flowers, courtesy of an anonymous donor, was won by John Anderson of Old Harpfields, Burford. We believe the flowers were donated by the winner to Tenbury Hospital & are on display in one of the wards.

Tenbury's Loyalty Scheme is a real hit with businesses and shoppers and over 10,000 Loyalty Cards have already been completed. A red apple sticker is handed out with any purchase but when shoppers spend over £5 they also earn a green apple sticker.

The Loyalty Scheme runs until the end of June, with a top prize of £1,000 each month. Traders in Tenbury Wells have embraced the Loyalty Scheme with enthusiasm. Apple stickers are available from a wide range of businesses, including shops, pubs, hairdressers, market stalls, takeaways, cafes, restaurants and supermarkets, making it easy for shoppers to earn the 15 stickers they need to complete a Loyalty Card.
