This is not a headline anyone wants to write, but as the Mayor & other Cllrs have expressed this week, it is a real concern. It is years since engineers identified that the bridge required repairs, yet there is still no firm date, or funding available to carryout those repairs.
With alternate routes either via very long diversions or very minor roads, the prospect of loosing the main access route out of town is very unwelcome.
It will be bad enough having to close the bridge for weeks when repairs are carried out, but the prospect of loosing the bridge for several years is something out of a nightmare. (If it takes 3 years to replace the toilets, think how long a bridge might take!)

It is thought-provoking that this post has no comments, despite being one of the most serious issues Tenbury faces. By contrast, the post about the fiasco of the Xmas lights switch on - irritating, but of no lasting importance - has plenty of comments. Could it be that residents and business owners are ignoring the big questions, and spending their time fiddling about with trivia that - in comparison - don't really matter.
Something serious has to be done - and quickly - if Tenbury is to get back to how it was even five years ago. This effort should be headed by the Chamber of Trade (but they are busy putting up Xmas lights so people can enjoy them as they come back from doing their Xmas shopping in Worcester) and by the Town Council (but they are busy subsidising the tennis, the bowls, and the football). Do neither of these organisations actually care about what has happened to Tenbury? Or is it just that they just haven't even noticed?
The County Council have said that the damage to the bridge isn't serious and there is no danger of collapse. The repairs will be done in 2011/12 and then the Bridge will be painted. They only have £1M a year to spend on bridges and the work at Holt Fleet has used up/will use up 2 years budget.
I just hope that theyre not relying on the paint to hold the bridge together otherwise we'll all be in the ...er....er... water
