Tesco's withdraw their Tenbury plan

Following the decision by the MHDC planning department to refuse permission to demolish the Old Infirmary Building (also known as the Market Office) to make way for the new store, Tescos have decided to withdraw their planning application.

The archaeological investigation, due to start on Monday by the Field Section of WCC Historic Environment & Archaeology Service, is still expected to proceed.

Looks like we get to stay firmly rooted in the past :-(
If the building can not be demolished who else will stump up the cash for the site knowing they'll have to fork out for the renovation and up keep??

Small mindedness wins again, let's see how many more empty shop fronts there are in the next 12 months.

Mr.Longbeard, posting as anon as I've forgotten this log in password.

Well, if a company the size of Tesco can't make the site work it is extremely difficult to see who else might – especially in these straightened times. Perhaps, after all, something will be developed on the Burford side of the river . . . that really would spell trouble for Tenbury shops..

I've already heard of a new potential site for a Tesco store in Burford. I wont say any more at present as I don't know yet how true it is...
