LOCAL "SITS VAC" - a new Service from the Teme Valley Times!

With the recent price increases in fuel and the unrealistically timetabled public transport, I am beginning to hear more stories of people, who are finding it harder to afford to get to work.  In the last few years Tenbury has become a bit of a dormitory town with more and more people commuting to Worcester, Kidderminster and beyond.

It would be really nice to see local people taking local jobs, rather than commuting 200 miles a week.

So to start the ball rolling, The Teme Valley Times, the local newspaper, with the highest circulation figures,  is launching an offer for the Feb/Mar issue (due out Feb 9th) - just £20 for an ad 84mm wide and 80mm high - big enough to stand out, but at a price all employers can afford.

This price is for a simple mono ad - a typical "sits vac" ad in other words - no colour, no fancy design, no photos etc.

(Ad deadline: Feb 2nd - Colour/design/photos etc are all possible, but then the ad would cost a bit more.)

Spread the word.

200 miles a week!!!! Luxury that is, I do 170 a day.

It would be nice to work more locally, but rural areas just aren't suited to a lot of modern jobs due to distance from motorways and lack of high speed communication infrastructures.

Still will be keeping eyes peeled to see if this new initiative throws up any interesting opportunities.

Unless you are lucky enough to have your Car & Fuel paid, if my calculations are correct you could take a £15,000 pay cut and still be financially better off and have several hours a day more leisure time.

I calculated

170 miles * 220 working days = 37,400 miles * 33p (AA 2010 Running costs for a 1600cc Car with Unleaded petrol @ 122.1p/litre covering 30,000 miles per year) = £12,342 Assume out of taxed income therefore about £15,000 Gross.

Thankfully the 33ppm thing doesn't really work in real life, trust me if I was spending anything like that I'd have quit a long long time ago.

I'd go into detail but don't want to derail this blog any further, I'm just glad I only go into the office three times a week.

Tenbury is closer to a motorway than most of the UK!
Does "170 miles a day" only work part time? Even at 50mpg, 5 days a week and 47 weeks a year means nearly £5,000 a year in fuel alone.

High speed communications are available in the local area - we can provide them. But local busineses dont seem to want to pay for it.
