The planned closure of the Teme Bridge will be one of the greatest challenges that have faced Tenbury in recent years. Even the flooding and the subsequent recovery time, may measure lower on the scale of effect.
There is no doubt that sooner or later the work will have to be done, and a planned approach is likely to be less disruptive than an "emergency response".
These are some links about the closure.

Couldn't they do the work in two halves? With traffic lights (but restrict heavy vehicles except emergency services). At least this would then not harm the town too much, allowing people to get through.
That's what they did at the Bridge at Holt Heath. I drive to Droitwich to get the train into Birmingham for work and even keeping one side open was traffic chaos at peak commuter times. Having said that, I temporarily stopped commuting end of March to go travelling, so I don't know whether they had to subsequently close the whole thing for a time before it was/is finished, but I don't think so.
We've had lights and alternative traffic controls in Tenbury before and chaos ensued. No easy solution really.
No they never closed it at all I drive to M5 that way twice a week and yes the traffic backed up but least it kept the access open plus they have way more traffic than Tenbury.
"Don't shoot the messenger" but I'm led to believe that the entire bed has to come up and will be replaced by pre-cast concrete sections. The work to Holt was mainly underneath.
A new pre-cast deck could be done in a few days - maybe just one weekend.
