Tenbury Parking Crisis Talks

The Town Council will be holding talks with Will Chase & Malvern Hills District Council to see if any additional long term parking spaces can be made available for next week.

The 91 Town Council free long term spaces will be unavailable due to the arrival of the traditional fun fair.

In previous years the displaced cars have been able to find on-street parking and use the old Cattle Market, but with on street parking now reaching saturation point, and the closure of the Cattle Market there could simply be nowhere for the shop and office workers to park.

On occasion the Burgage has been made available for parking, but with the damage done last year by vehicles accessing the site for the bonfire still not repaired, and heavy rain forecast for the end of this week and the beginning of next week, there is an understandable reluctance to facilitate this.

We went to Llandovery a couple of years ago where the town council were fighting for free parking.

How long will the car park be closed?

I am not convinced the fair should come to town. The inconvienience caused far out weighs the benefits (very few people use it). Not to mention the damage to the car park and local trade...Does the fair pay TTC or is it the other way around? (as has been rumoured....)

The fair pay the Council. Fairs have been coming for over a hundred years. I would be happy for them to stop, but it is income, and if they are stopped it would have to be replaced.

Why not put the fair on the Palmers? The Tenbury Show used to held there so it must be ok for a fair.

Guess it's the usual problem of heavy vehicles & wet grass.

Why did they rip up the tempory car park up surely they knew the fair was coming they could have kept that open for another month or permanatly

This idea was discussed at the Town Council meeting but there were a few problems.
1. The surface was only a temporary one & had already started to break up. (I think all of the products will be recycled)
2. It would be against policy as the field floods.
3. The removal was part of the contract so couldn't be delayed.
I have also heard, but cannot confirm that the owner only allowed the use for a limited period.
